This year we’ll feature a different ‘Marigal’ every month, getting to know them, learning why they love Marigold, and how they contribute to the magic of our shop and community!
This feature will be all about our resident renaissance gal, Nora Spitznogle!
Marigold has always been a favorite place in her eyes – entering the store feels like walking into a warm hug. She has been part of our history since the beginning. Nora and our owner Linda Shikany both attended Purdue University and lived in the same apartment building in Lafayette – they were to become life-long friends! Nora recalls, “When the first Marigold location was getting ready to open [in 1989], I was on the volunteer crew painting walls and bringing pizzas. I loved literally watching the store go from an idea to being there when the first boxes arrived.” From helping with the first coat of paint to managing the shop to currently helping out on Sundays, Nora is an essential asset to Marigold!
Nora found her way to Broad Ripple as a punk-rocker in college, going to shows at Crazy Al’s, the Patio, and the Vogue. Since 1987 (give or take a few years), Nora has lived within a mile of the village. She’s had an ear on the local music scene all those years. For the last 10, Nora has written the music and entertainment column, as well as ‘Buzzing Around Town’ column for the Broad Ripple Gazette. You also might find her working at the iconic Red Key Tavern on the weekends. But her true passion is working at Second Helpings (where she has been the director of programs for over 12 years). She oversees all of their programs including culinary job training, food rescue, and hunger relief. Nora, with her growing team of volunteers, help prepare and deliver over ONE MILLION meals a year, rescuing 2.5 million pounds of food from local businesses, and help to train more adults for careers in the culinary industry! Wahoooooo!
While Nora is busy writing, waitressing, and being the director of an amazing non- profit, she is always looking fabulous doing it. Most likely because she is dressed in head to toe Marigold! One of her (and our) favorite lines is CutLoose – it’s durable, comfortable and has just the right flair for Nora’s busy lifestyle!
Nora knows that Marigold is more than just a boutique. The encouragement that Marigold provides customers warms her heart.
Marigold helped Nora gain her confidence within the fashion world. For her, a trip to Marigold is like Happy Hour! Everyone knows your name (or will shortly) and is happy to see you. Marigold clothes are a big part of people’s lives – a new outfit for the first day of a new job, or a wedding, or a vacation, or even a funeral. It’s an honor to help people find those special pieces. Nora loves Marigold because it’s a positive place for our city! We think Nora is a wonderful representation of Marigold, Second Helpings, Red Key Tavern and The Broad Ripple Gazette!
