About Libelle Studio with Jacquie Green
"All through my childhood, I’d collect objects that struck my fancy such as cool looking stones, shells, bits of twine, wires, etc. and cobble little creations together. Later as a teenager, I would constantly have some artsy project going. However, making intricate paper cut-outs with my precision pen knife was my favorite.It wasn't until I took a metalsmithing class at the Indianapolis Art Center in my twenties that a whole new outlet for art and creativity opened up for me. The “Intro to Jewelry Making” class with Marilyn Smith confirmed my interest in metalsmithing. I have many instructors to thank for teaching and nurturing me along my path in becoming the jewelry artist I am today.
I primarily use sterling silver wire/sheet to construct my pieces, adding oxidized designs for texture. On occasion, I’ll incorporate some brass, copper or gold for accents/contrast. I use semi-precious stones, ocean/lake rocks, fossils, and other elements in my pieces. When creating my larger necklaces (my husband calls them “showstoppers”), I’ll cut out a design on the back of the pendant; this is known as pierce work. It gives each piece an added bit of bespoke charm. Many clients are surprised when they turn my pieces over to find another dimension to my work; that the piece can be worn in different ways.
As I’ve matured, I’ve discovered that if a week goes by and I haven’t spent time in my studio, I feel incomplete. So, naturally, I am my happiest in my studio, in my creative “flow”, making wearable art."
